Extremely venomous sea snake washes ashore in California for the first time in 30 years

For the first time in over three decades, a poisonous snake species has been identified in California.

– In California, the last known sighting of the yellow-bellied sea snake occurred in the early 1980s, during an El Nio weather event.

With an abnormally strong El Nio this year and two sightings on a beach in Oxnard, California, scientists are appealing to the public for assistance in determining if these warm-water snakes have returned.

– Yellow belly sea snakes have the world’s most lethal poison.
